TV Review

Me: I wonder why Caillou talks like a baby?
Will: I don't know, but he's a bad actor.

Sweetest Thing

As I was taking Catie to her bedroom tonight to put her to bed, Will asked if he could come in and sing "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" to her. Clearly the answer is a no-brainer- yes, yes, every time yes. So I sat with Catie on the rocker he stood next to us singing the song in his very off-key way (so precious, I'm not kidding). As he got to the final

twinkle twinkle little star
how I wonder what you are

Catie leaned over and planted one on his lips.

Man, I love my kids.
(photo is an oldie but a goodie)

Not About the Kids

My first ever anything grown for consumption. It's kind of like your own child- perhaps it's not the best-looking of the bunch, but I think it's beautiful! And I have about 30 more on the plant that are actually beautiful and ripening.

I think I might be addicted to growing tomatoes.

Oh Happy Day!

Will gets to take the bus with Dave today! I'm off to pick him up in 20 minutes...

I wonder what one thing I'll hear about all day long?

Hello?

Catie will make a phone out of anything. A piece of paper, a pen, and, well, our real phone. Today she had a little plastic toy phone passed down from cousins Jack and Autumn. The conversation went like this:

"Hello? DADDY!!! By-ye!" (pucker up and kiss the air)

The Wheels on the Bus

One of Will's favorite things in the world is mass transportation. He'll talk for hours about the L (and wouldn't you know it- he wants an L cake for his birthday!), every single plane overhead, trains, trains, and more trains, and the busses he sees on the streets of Des Moines.

This week Dave has started to take the bus to work. You can imagine how thrilled Will is about this. Every morning he goes out with Dave to wait for the bus, which stops just a house down from ours.

Monday was his first day and I was unaware that Will had gone out without pants. You'd think Dave would've caught that! Shortly after this picture was taken, Will asked Dave to hold hands. (awwwww!)

Photo Friday

Big bat, little girl
I think he's not sure he likes this?

This is for Frannie. Do you recognize Dave? ;)

Grandma's attempt to get a photo of the cousins together. They listen well, don't you think?

4th of July parade- Will had a blast!

Catie too, although she was trying to act cool about it.

Will's a very busy gardener

We're outta here!

(I totally don't get the formatting on Blogspot. Whatever. You get the idea.)

Creating a Monster

We had the crayons out the other day and I thought it would be fun to trace Catie's hand for her. Little did I know that every time she would see a crayon she'd insist that I trace her hand again...and again...and again...

How does a girl of few words demand that her hand be traced, you ask? She carries over the crayon, shoves it in your hand, thrusts out her hand, and says something indiscernible, like "shwih" or "thernw".

Good Times

Will LOVES being at his grandparents' houses. So much, in fact, that he just passed up the opportunity to go to both Ev's (a little local ice cream place in Marshalltown) and the new, super-fancy aquatic center in order to stay at Gram Jean and Gramp Tom's to play outside.

He also declined to call cousin Ethan to see if he'd like to come over, stating "Ethan really likes that green trike too". I believe the implication is that because Ethan likes the green trike as much as Will does, and because Ethan is bigger than Will, perhaps Will doesn't get to ride the trike as much as he'd like when Ethan's around.

All About the Slang

My mom reminded me of this-

We were at my parents' house last weekend. They have a cat named Sadie who is...how do you say?...temperamental. Will was trying to explain why Catie was upset and it went like this:

"Catie was all up in Sadie's grill and Sadie hissed at her."

Photo Overload

I've been slacking in the post and photo department, so I thought I should make up for it.
Catie and Grandpa Curt jamming

Grandma Bonnie and Will going out into the puddles "in bare feet"

Cousins enjoying sidewalk chalk (ick!)

Will taking a ride in Grandpa's limo

Getting ready for his future in trumpet-playing

Catie and cousin Isaac- he's only 1 week older and of average stature...

She has some hair. See the wave???

Sprinkler fun

Generalizing

Clearly Catie's been watching her brother. I walked into Will's room the other day and heard her say "choo choo!" as she moved about with a truck. Today it was with a plastic hamburger bun. I'm not sure what the general umbrella is that the truck AND the hamburger bun fall under- is it that all things plastic say choo choo?

Impressionable

"Is this a Jack and Jill bath?"

-WDB in the bathroom at a playdate. Do you think we've been talking about houses at home?
